Another Year

I just celebrated another birthday. It seems that the older I get, the faster the time goes. It's hard for me to believe that I'm not in my 20's anymore, but already a few years into my 30's. Last night when I checked on my girls before I went to bed, I couldn't believe how fast they had grown. It seems like just yesterday I only had Emma and I was rocking her to sleep and singing to her. And every once in awhile her little head with that curly black hair (yes, she did have curly black hair when she was born) would pop up and those big dark eyes would look into mine. And then she would put her head back down and fall asleep without a care in the world. I miss those little bonding moments. But we have them now, just in a different way.

There's a song I heard that asks the question, "How do you measure a year in a life?". Here are the words.

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes;
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee;
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife?
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes;
How do you measure a year in your life?

And there's more to the song, but you get the point. How do you measure a year? I never really thought of it before and still don't have my answer. A year is not that long, but you hope (at least I do) that your year was a productive one. One that wasn't wasted, but used for growth, for learning, for teaching, etc. Because those years end up becoming a lifetime. And when I'm old, I want someone to say of me, "She learned until the day she died. She was a godly and wise woman. She taught her children well." And then the ultimate statement, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant!". I had a fantastic birthday this year, even though I had to work on my birthday. I was able to spend the weekend in Indy with my children and my husband. Even though it was busy, they made it a great day for me!

Happy Valentine's Day

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day at our home this week. The girls enjoyed their little gifts and tiny boxes of chocolates. I woke up to Marc sitting next to me with a special package in his hands. If you really want to know what it was, just e-mail me and I'll tell you. But the day was great. Even though I had to go into school for most of the day, we had a very fun evening. I hope that you all had a very nice day, too.

Growing Up

Well, I know that growing up is something that everyone has to do, but I wish that it would slow down just a little bit. We had a first in our household last week. We don't see too many of those anymore. And when we do, we are still very excited about them. Emma lost her very first tooth. It has been loose for months now and we've been doing everything from wiggling it to twisting it to get it to fall out. She is young to start losing teeth, but her first four teeth came in when she was three months old. She has another tooth that is very loose and already a permanent one coming in. Everything seems to be happenning so fast. I miss the baby stage, but I love how she's growing and becoming her own person. I love the fact that she can do most things on her own. But there are times when she still needs mom. And I relish those moments. I know pretty soon we'll have three little girls with toothy grins. And they'll grow up to become teenagers and then women. Hopefully I will have done my job right and they will be the godly women that God has intended them to be. But for now I'll enjoy doing puzzles on the floor, teaching them to read and doing the pee-pee dance. Time is too short to not enjoy the little things in life.
